Every golfer on the planet is susceptible to buying gadgets that will help them improve their game. Unfortunately, most of them end up in the closet with all of the rest of the scams that do nothing more than make us look like fools out on the course. Well the iPhone has an app that just may do more good than bad in the GolfShot: Golf GPS app.

Golf GPS devices have become pretty popular over the last few years, and this one has few shortcomings as an app. First off, it is less than $30 and that is a far cry from the hundreds of dollars stand alone devices will run from the likes of Golfsmith. It is packed with special features and while there are some flaws, it is pretty respectable for the price.

One of the toughest things for any golfer to figure

out on a new course is the range from tee to green and from their approach shot to the green. This app can not only do that, but will also be able to give target ranges as well. When you need to know how far it is down to the water hazard from where you are standing, just point and the information pops right up on the screen.

Golfshot has long been associated as the best of the best when it comes to having GPS devices for golfers, so it is no surprise that this app is considered to be one of the best available for the iPhone. There are currently well over 22,000 courses that have their information available on the app, so it will be a rare course that can be played where the information will not be in the palm of your hands.

The timing was perfect as the long awaited DOOM title has finally been released. Those of you that were lucky enough to get it when it first hit the market were treated to a great Halloween weekend of one of the most anticipated titles yet for the iPhone games applications. For only $6.99, you are getting a lot of entertainment for your dollar.

The 3 original episodes of DOOM are all included and they have added an original 4th episode, Thy Flesh Consumed. First person shooter games are always a blast to get through and with 36 challenging levels, this one is going to keep you busy on the train ride into work for quite some time. It should only be a matter of time before DOOM 2 finds its way onto the apps page and after working the bugs out on this one, it should only get better.

Marvel has also announced that they are jumping in

with both feet and plan on releasing several comic book series’ that will be available for direct purchase on the iPhone. This will now put the iPhone in the electronic book category as this application allows you to avoid the lines at the local newsstand or collectors stores in order to be able to enjoy your latest edition of the Marvel library.

It will be very interesting to see how this plays out in the very near future as the iPhone is jumping into some very different markets with these applications. While the Kindle Reader is already facing a lot of direct competition and scrutiny, this is only going to make matters worse for it. We all know that Apple jumps in hard with both feet and when they do something, they do it right. It is pretty safe to assume that if these latest applications are a hit, we are going to see them expand fairly rapidly.

  • iPhone games turn eco-friendly

iPhone-games-top-imageIn an age when the environment is garnering more attention and global warming seems to be an increasingly popular topic, it is no surprise that iPhone apps are taking cues and beginning to focus on beloved Mother Earth. One such app, which turns recycling into a game, is i-Dig: The Recycling Challenge. The game is based on an ecological adventure in which the goal is to help a worm collect (and properly recycle) as much trash as possible. There are obstacles to amp up the excitement of rummaging and recycling, and the game also offers single and multi-player modes. At the end of the day, though,  i-Dig  is just reinforcing some eco-friendly habits which, let’s face it, we all need to adopt.
