iPhone Gets Its Own Version of DJ Hero

The much anticipated release of the Amidio Touch DJ application has finally been approved by Apple for sale in the App Store and it is sure to be a top seller in no time at all.
touchdjThe app enables users to mix two tracks without ever hearing one second of the song and has some special features that are pretty incredible for being use on a phone.

DJ app’s have apparently been blocked for the iPhone for quite some time and nobody is really sure why. There has been a multitude of applications and every one of them has been turned down to this point. Whether Apple is scared that the applications will hurt their iPod sales or not is unclear as they have been pretty tight lipped about everything so far. However, users have been sending letters and petitions about approval for some type of app and Apple has finally given in.

Cheap Rugs

The Amidio Touch DJ app will retail for $19.99 in the app store and is pretty amazing. Two separate tracks can be pulled up and compared via the sound waves that

are generated. Mixers should be able to combine the tracks by visually matching the waves. At least that is the theory behind the whole thing.

While there is a lot of upside to this app, there are also some small roadblocks that Apple has in mind for its users. For instance, if the user wants to pre listen to the songs before they have been mixed, they must buy a splitting adapter to do so. They also cannot access their current library. Any songs that they want to use in the app must re-imported through another utility on the iPhone.

Even though there are some limitations, there are also a lot of special effects that can be used within the app itself that make this well worth the money. The fact that it is the only true DJ application that is usable on the iPhone doesn’t really give us a choice though if we want to use the iPhone as mixer for our iTunes library. However, Amidio did a great job with the obvious restrictions that Apple put on them to get this approved.

  • A member of MacRumors forum has reported buying and unboxing the TomTom GPS Car Kit for the iPhone, and MacRumors was nice enough to post about the experience. The kit has been delayed a few weeks, but is now being shipped to stores apparently.

More about the insert details here:

Also found within the car kit packaging was a paper insert describing a forthcoming free TomTom iPhone application that will allow users to administer some of the technical functions of the car kit without the need for the TomTom navigation iPhone application, which is sold separately. It is possible that this free application will enable the use of third-party GPS applications with the kit, allowing them to take advantage of the kit’s built-in GPS receiver and other features.

This isn’t a shock, given we reported on this particular issue a few weeks ago.

  • A Study in Excess: $1,000 iPhone cases?

No, we aren’t kidding. There are iPhone cases in Japan going for $1,000 a pop. Because that’s exactly where the Japan Texture cases from SoftBank BB are going on sale.
    1000cases

But really, this is ridiculous—these things don’t even have diamonds, crystals or gold on them. So why so high?

The Japan Texture line of cases are all handcrafted and have referential nods to significant moments and concepts in Japanese history and culture. That’s wonderful and all, but $1,000?

The forces/people behind these events would be ashamed at the fleecing of its own people. Othernations have been fleeced in similar ways, so this isn’t strictly a Japanese phenomena.

There are actually fancy covered phones that cost even more, admittedly, but many of those have something precious on them besides paint and historical scenery. To each their own, we suppose; people are free to spend their money how they like.

Here’s the (Japanese; may need Google translation) site’s press announcement: http://www.softbankbb.co.jp/ja/news/press/2009/20090814_01/index.html

Here is the new theme for iPhone case, looks like an NES Controller you might know from the good old times. It matches the iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS. The cute case has been handmade from felt and is available for $20 from Etsy.

You purchased a new iPhone 3GS or 3G recently but you are still searching for that perfect case to protect your investment? There are so many options out there in the marketplace that choosing the perfect case can be a tough decision. Today I want to introduce yet another case that you may want to consider, the Belkin Slim-Fit Case for iPhone 3G/3GS. You can purchase the Belkin Slim Fit right here in TiPb store for the low price of $24.95.

The Belkin Slim-Fit is a well designed holster case that serves one single purpose, to protect your investment while it is not in use. The case is made up of high quality leather and stitching, with fabric sides and a soft lining that will not scratch your phone. To secure your phone there is a velcro flap that assures you your phone will not accidentally fall out. A nice touch that Belkin added was leaving the bottom of the case open so you can not only attach your charging/sync cable but your speaker volume will not be muffled.

Overall, the case really lives up to its name, as it doesn’t add much bulk to your iPhone, even with a belt clip on the back. Kudos to Belkin.

    Daily Use
I am a big fan of holster/pouch cases, and the Belkin Slim-Fit did not disappoint. Your iPhone 3G/3GS will fit perfectly into the case but not so tight to the point where you can not get the phone out quickly if you have to answer a call. The first few times you use it, it may seem like it is tighter than you’d like but rest be assured, the leather does loosen up a bit after a few uses.

The option to use a non-removable belt clip is a nice feature. And the clip itself is very low profile so if you don’t wish to use it, the case still fits comfortably in your pocket.

If there are any downsides to the case, it would be that, as a slide-in holster, the Slim-Fit doesn’t allow you use your iPhone while it’s in the case. Yes, that should be considered a given when purchasing a holster case but it would be a nice bonus to have none-the-less.

    Conclusion
Like most holster-type cases, the Slim-Fit only offers protection to your iPhone when it is holstered, which can be a good thing or a bad thing. It all depends on what your preferences are in a case. If you are a fan of similar cases, this one is a great deal. In the end, I can’t help but like this case for what it is – the slimmest belt-clip case I’ve used – ever.
    Pros
Slimmest holster case money can buy
Offers good protection while your iPhone 3G/3GS is not in use
    High quality materials
    Cons
Can not access your screen when your phone is in the case
    Not dockable

Another day, another iPhone case, right? Well, kind of, but this one differs from all the others in that it’s totally awesome and has a set of lenses that fit into it. While I’m the last person in the world to shoot real pictures or video on a phone, if I had to, I’d certainly make sure I had some real glass on it. That’s what the Factron Quattro case offers — well, that and about a pound of extra weight in your pocket.

I love everything about it. The lines are nice, completely reshaping the iPhone to a meatier machine, the construction looks great (check out the screws), and who couldn’t use a wide-angle adapter now and again?

Unfortunately it’s a bit pricey at $200, and lenses come separately. For that price you could get a quarter ounce of gold! Beautiful, beautiful gold!
